Ministry of Textiles announced that it had cleared 20 strategic research projects worth Rs 30 Crores in Specialty fibres and Geotextiles under the Union Minister of Textiles Piyush Goyal, the Ministry of Textiles said in a statement. According to the ministry, these strategic research projects will come under the Flagship Programme “National Technical Textiles Mission.” Between the 20 Research projects, 16 projects of Specialty fibres were approved, including five projects in Healthcare, four projects in Industrial and Protective, three projects in Energy Storage, three projects in Textile waste recycling, and 1 in Agriculture and four projects in Geotextiles, the ministry said.
Several leading Indian Institutes, Centres of Excellence and Government Organizations participated in the programme, including IITs, DRDO, BTRA, in the session which cleared projects strategic for the growth of the Indian economy and a step in the direction of Atmanirbhar Bharat in the Healthcare, Industrial and Protective, Energy Storage, Textile Waste Recycling, Agriculture and Infrastructure sector. While addressing the group of Scientists and Technical Technologists, Piyush Goyal said, “Industry and Academia connect necessary for growing research and development in the application sectors of Technical Textiles in India. Meeting with Academicians, Scientists and Researchers is the requirement of the hour.”
