Singapore Lifts Travel Ban on 10 African Countries

Singapore has lifted the travel ban on 10 African countries due to the Omicron variant. Passengers coming to Singapore who has travelled to Botswana, Eswatini, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe in the last 14 days come under Singapore’s Category IV border measures starting from Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said a new wave of cases could be seen due to the high transmissibility of the Omicron variant. “In the coming days, more Covid cases are expected and instant increase in cases. This is again a process we need to go through to live with Covid-19. Instead of being isolated in dedicated facilities, Omicron cases will be put on home recovery or treated at community care facilities depending on their health.

Also, the travellers must take a PCR test within two days before arrival to Singapore and an on-arrival PCR test. They will also have to be quarantined for 10-days at a dedicated facility. Another PCR test will be done at the end of the quarantine period. The MoH said it is adopting a “more careful risk containment approach to decrease the spread of the Omicron in Singapore.”
