Bird flu cases have been detected in Kerala’s Alappuzha district. The cases are confirmed in ward number 10 of the Thakazhi Gram Panchayat. The area where bird flu was detected has been declared a containment zone. The activity of vehicles and people in that area have been restricted. Alappuzha District Collector A Alexander arranged an emergency meeting and planned to stop the flu from extending to other sites.
The District Administration banned the use and sale of eggs, meat and dung of ducks, chickens, quails and local birds in the affected areas. The ban will be applicable in Champakulam, Nedumudi, Muttar, Viyapuram, Karuvatta, Thrikkunnapuzha, Thakazhi, Purakkad, Ambalapuzha South, Ambalapuzha North, Edathva panchayats and Harippad Municipality area.

It has been decided to completely cull the birds and bury them safely within a radius of one kilometre in the 10th ward of Thakazhi panchayath. The local police were ordered to support these activities and watch the area. The Department of Animal Welfare will make sure the service of Rapid Response Teams and bury the birds.
