Bangladesh will resume flights to India from October 28 under the ‘air bubble’ program. Under a mutual air bubble agreement, airlines of both countries can manage international flights with some restrictions.
Since July, India is establishing such bubbles with many countries like the US, the UK, France and Germany. Three Bangladeshi carriers -Biman Bangladeshi Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines and Novo Air will operate 28 flights a week, and Indian airlines -Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Vistara and GoAir will also manage 28 flights a week.
The decision to restart flights to India was done at an inter-ministerial meeting at the civil aviation and tourism ministry, a report said. According to the report in The Dhaka Tribune, from January 2018 to March 2019, at least 2,876,000 Bangladeshi passengers toured India, and 10 per cent of them came for medical treatment. Around 5,000 passengers from both countries will be able to fly each week, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman said.
