Canada will now be allowing fully-vaccinated US visitors into the country from August 9 for non-essential travel as the Coronavirus cases decrease, the Ottawa government said. Visitors from countries other than the United States who are vaccinated will be allowed to enter from September 7. The travel relaxation depends on Canada’s Covid-19 epidemiology remaining helpful, the government said in a statement.

Businesses on both sides of the border, especially the travel and airline industries, are asking to end restrictions on non-essential travel between Canada and the United States, which were forced in March 2020. “Thanks to the hard work of Canadians, rising vaccination, and decreasing Covid-19 cases, the government can move forward with adjusted border measures,” the government added.

People eligible to enter Canada must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before entering the country. From August 9, Ottawa is also implementing the requirement that all travellers coming by air must spend three nights in a hotel, so there is no further increase in covid cases.
