Traders warn that prices may increase further if the supply issue continues.

According to traders, potato prices in Odisha have risen slightly over the past two days due to supply restrictions imposed by West Bengal.

Hundreds of potato trucks are stranded near the Odisha-Bengal border, with vehicles blocked from crossing since Wednesday night.

Many trucks have returned to their origins to avoid spoilage, raising concerns among traders.

Traders warn that prices may increase further if the supply issue continues.

Sudhakar Panda, Secretary of the All Odisha Traders Association, urged the Odisha government to negotiate with West Bengal to restore the supply.

Odisha’s Food Supplies Minister confirmed a disruption in potato supply from West Bengal.

He assured us that the state would source potatoes from Punjab or Uttar Pradesh to avoid consumer issues.

Odisha needs about 4,500 tonnes of potatoes daily, primarily relying on West Bengal for its supply.
